9 year old Harley Haughton received a bit of a shock when visiting the BBC.
Haughton was being interviewed by Radio 5 Live as this year’s winner of the Manchester and Buxton Kart Club Honda Cadet Championship. During his interview newly crowned Formula 1 Champion Lewis Hamilton dropped in for a surprise chat, leaving Harley (and apparently host Nicky Campbell!) speechless.
The drivers secured their respective wins on the same day, with Hamilton clinching his second F1 title in Abu Dhabi. Hamilton gave well deserved credit to Haughton for being a year younger than Hamilton when he won his first championship as a youngster. His nostalgia for his younger days shone through, saying that those were “the best times and the best races.”
Both drivers seem to have their dads to thank for contributing towards their success, with Hamilton crediting his dad Anthony for his influence on his career.
He gave advised Haughton some advice, telling him he had to
make sure you listen to your dad. You probably don’t always think that’s the best thing to do but they always know best!
Hamilton is on the shortlist for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award alongside golfer Rory McIllroy. Hamilton has never won the award before, and the last F1 driver to win it was Damon Hill in 1996.
