The month of November has become a time when men all over the world grow out their facial hair to raise awareness, and funding, for the Movember Foundation.

The charity focuses on drawing attention to hidden men’s health issues, in the hope of seeing men live happier, healthier, longer lives – and this year ALA are getting involved!

In support, we pledge to donate £1.00 for every policy we sell in November to the Movember Foundation. Even our Managing Director Simon England is getting involved and growing a Mo. We’ll keep you updated on our Twitter feed and our Facebook page as to how he’s getting on!

If you’ve never heard of Movember before, the charity focuses on informing about and combating:

  • Poor mental health

Statistically affects more men than women, with men less likely to ask for help; three quarters of all suicides are by men.

The Movember foundation aims to improve support needed to address mental health problems and works closely with groups at higher risk of poor mental health and suicide.

  • Prostate cancer

The second most common cancer in men worldwide, with over 1.1 million cases recorded in 2012 alone.

The Movember Foundation in investing in research to ensure men receive the best possible outcome after diagnosis, and is the largest non-government funded investor in prostate cancer research in the world.

  • Testicular cancer

Testicular cancer is one of the leading cancer diagnosis in men and boys between the ages of 15 and 40. Although over 95% of men diagnosed with testicular cancer receive treatment and see a good outcome, there are still a small proportion of men and boys who do not.

The Movember foundation invests in treatment, education and support services to improve outcomes across the board.

  • Physical inactivity

The world over both men and women are exercising less and eating more. With all the benefits of exercise to mental and physical health the Movember foundation seeks to encourage men to lead a more active life.

You too can get involved and help raise awareness – please help us by donating via our Just Giving page or text ALAQ65 and the amount you would like to donate to 70070.
