Best Cars for Golfers

As The Open tees off on 14th June for the 145th Championship in Royal Troon Golf Club in Ayrshire, Scotland, golfers up and down the UK will be dusting off their clubs and practicing their swing.

Here at ALA GAP Insurance we thought, what better time to compile a Best Cars for Golfers list? We’ve looked at everything from estates to compacts, from prestige to more affordable cars, because as all golfers know, driving up to the local golf club in the right car is a must. Audi A6 Avant 3.0

Audi A6 Avant

The Audi A6 Avant is one of the most stylish and sophisticated estate cars on the market, the perfect choice for golfing enthusiasts. Not only will it fit in perfectly at the clubhouse carpark, its impressive 1,680 litres of boot space means you’ll never have trouble finding room for your golf bag, or even two. BMW 5 Series S 400 HYBRID

BMW 5 Series

One of the big beasts in the company car market, the BMW 5 Series represents a combination of spacious economic driving, excellent performance and superb handling. Is it any wonder that the car has become something of a status symbol among executives? Thanks to its 1,670-litres of luggage space, it’s unsurprising then that the BMW 5 Series is also a hit with golfers. © M 93 / Wikimedia Commons / CC-BY-SA-3.0 (DE)

Jaguar XF Sportbrake

No golf car list would be complete without the ubiquitous ‘Jag’. For the budding golfer, the Jaguar XF Sportbrake is arguably the best estate car to go for. With 1,675 litres of luggage space the Jaguar nudges just ahead of the BMW 5 Series in the car boot department, meaning Jag owners can hold their heads high when it comes to the bragging rights for style and space. © M 93 / Wikimedia Commons / CC-BY-SA-3.0 (DE)

Ford Focus

The Ford Focus is one of the smaller cars on the list. If you own a Focus and fancy popping down to your local golf course, but aren’t sure whether you have enough space for your bag, then you’re in luck. It may only have 316 litres of boot space, but that will be plenty for a single golf bag. With the back seats folded, the car’s rear space increases to 1,215 litres, providing plenty of room for a trolley and umbrella.

MINI Clubman

The MINI Clubman has the right name for golfing, but it does it have the right amount of space? It turns out it does. Carrying more luggage space than the MINI Hatch (930 litres of space with folding rear seats), its 'barn door' design makes loading much easier than you get get from a traditional compact car. Did we mention that the Clubman drives as well as a traditional MINI? Its excellent dynamics and responsive steering means it delivers that too. BMW Z4 Roadster

BMW Z4 Roadster

If what you’re really after is to make a statement at your local club, then the BMW Z4 Roadster is the sports car for you. Even though the Roadster’s performance may not reach the dizzying heights of the Porsche Boxster, what it lacks in speed it more than makes up for in looks and – most importantly for a golfer – space. It turns out the Roadster has room not for just one, but two golf bags in the back. This means you’ll have something extra to boast about whilst you’re enjoying a round with your friends on the fairway. Click here to read more: News ALA Connect.
