ALA Warranty flexibly protects petrol, diesel and hybrid vehicles up to 150,000 miles or 16 years and EVs up to 100,000 miles and 10 years. Critical vehicle components are covered against sudden mechanical or electrical failure under either the Platinum, Gold, Silver or Electric Car Warranty. Policyholders benefit from robust financial protection, zero excess to pay, no pre-inspection and Wear & Tear Cover on Platinum.

Do you need an extended warranty for BYD?

BYD provides an extensive manufacturer warranty up to 6 years or 150,000 km (93 miles) of Basic Coverage and up to 8 years or 200,000 km (124,000 miles) for the power battery. However, an extended warranty is beneficial if you intend to keep the vehicle beyond these periods. While the BYD warranty is extremely generous, ALA offers an extended warranty to cars as old as 16 years and 150,000 miles. It covers unexpected mechanical or electrical failures that occur after the manufacturer’s warranty expires.

How does the BYD warranty compare to extended warranty?

The BYD warranty is a manufacturer-backed policy covering defects in materials and workmanship, offering 6 years of basic coverage. In contrast, ALA’s extended warranty is an insured product with three tiers (Silver, Gold, and Platinum) that can cover mechanical and electrical faults for vehicles for up to 16 years or 150,000 miles. While BYD’s coverage is fixed to the vehicle’s early life, ALA provides flexibility for older models. The Platinum tier specifically includes Wear and Tear, which manufacturer warranties generally exclude.

Key differences:

  • BYD offers a long factory warranty of up to 6 years of basic coverage
  • BYD is a maintenance policy, whereas ALA offers financial security as it is an insured product
  • There are three tiers of ALA warranty covering cars up to 150,000 miles and 16 years
  • ALA covers Wear & Tear on Platinum where BYD does not
  • ALA covers car batteries under EV, Gold and Platinum warranties. BYD covers EV and hybrid batteries as part of their 8-year Power Battery Cover.

What is covered on ALA’s EV warranty?

ALA’s coverage of electrical vehicle components covers the Power Controller, Electric Drive Motor, Power Converter, Power Inverter Module, Electric Vehicle Control Modules, Electrical Battery Unit, Hybrid Batteries and the On-Board Charger. It also includes Regenerative Brake Systems (excluding pads and discs) and the High Voltage Battery Pack (HVB) for repairs. Under the Platinum level, the warranty also covers Wear and Tear, which is typically excluded from manufacturer warranties. Please review the full list of covered components in the correct policy documents. Read about EV warranty here.

Is BYD extended warranty worth it?

Determining whether the ALA Warranty is worth it for you largely depends on whether the cost of the policy will be worth the peace of mind of covering a potentially significant repair bill after your manufacturer’s warranty ends.

The average claim amount for an ALA Extended Warranty is £1,128.59, and the failure mileage is 60,000. So, while BYD offer a generous manufacturer warranty, once it expires, it can be a good idea to buy an extended policy as soon as the 6-year period is up to cover the crucial EV components.

Due to the eligibility requirements for ALA warranty at 6 years old, you will only have until the car reaches 7 years or 80,000 miles to buy comprehensive Platinum tier Warranty. Alternatively, Gold Warranty is available for up to 12 years and 100,000 miles and Silver is available 16 years and 150,000 miles.

Yes, the BYD battery is covered on a separate policy to the factory warranty – up to 8 years and 200,000km. *repairs only, excludes cell degradation and call damage due to over or under charging or water ingress) as well as with batteries stating (On Gold, we will pay 50% including VAT, of your claim Limit, up to a maximum of £1,000 for any approved claim concerning hybrid and electrical propulsion batteries. This includes kinetic energy recapturing capacitors but excludes standard 12/24v lead acid batteries.)

Has BYD recently extended its warranty policies?

Yes, BYD has recently (January, 2026) increased the mileage limit for their blade battery warranty from 6 years and 150,000 miles to eight years and 250,000 miles (at 70% SOH or higher). This coverage extension applies retroactively, which means if you bought your car before this change, it will still apply to you.

Do hybrid BYD vehicles have different warranty terms compared to fully electric models?

Both model types share the same duration for the power battery and drive unit. However, components specific to hybrids, such as engine belts, have a shorter coverage period.

What can void a BYD warranty?

Improper maintenance is the number one reason for a void waranty claim regardless of whether you are covered by a manufacturer warranty or an extended warranty policy.
