What is a car warranty?
A car warranty – or mechanical breakdown insurance – is designed to protect you and your car in the event of an unforeseen breakdown. Think of it like a safety net. While the actual level of cover can vary from policy to policy, car warranties will usually cover the most important parts.
If your vehicle does suffer a fault or failure, being covered by a car warranty means you aren’t left alone to deal with it. Warranties don’t just take care of the cost of replacement parts. They also cover labour and extras such as car hire, too. And, for many, it proves a smart investment.
Do I need car warranty from ALA?
New cars often come with a manufacturer’s warranty as standard. Such warranties usually last 3 years (or a set number of miles), although some car makes like Hyundai or Kia now offer much longer coverage. So, if you’re buying a new car, you’ll have that peace of mind from the outset.
But not everyone drives a young car bought from new. An extended car warranty supplied by ALA is designed for those drivers.
It can be a great solution for anyone keeping their car beyond its original cover period. It’s also useful for anyone about to buy a used car. The original manufacturer warranty can’t usually be transferred to a second owner and a used car warranty is sometimes the only way to get peace of mind.
One of the most important reasons to get warranty cover, however, is the cost of repairs. If it makes you shudder to think how much a breakdown could cost you, this could be the answer.
What isn’t covered under a warranty policy from ALA?

Do you only offer used car warranties?
While pre-owned vehicles typically have no cover against unexpected breakdowns, we don’t just offer used car warranties here at ALA, but new car warranty too.
Our policies are also designed to offer excellent value and peace of mind to the owners of newer cars with a manufacturer warranty that’s about to expire.
To be eligible, all cars must be under 8 years old and with a mileage of less than 80,000 miles from new (Platinum coverage), under 12 years old with a mileage of less than 100,000 miles (Gold coverage), or under 16 years old with a mileage of less than 150,000.

Just bought the policy, on the basis of WhatCar and The Car Expert reviews. Seems extremely competitive compared to the quote I had from Mercedes. I hope I never need to use it, but if I do that will be the proof of the pudding!
